Why do people suck AND why do we spend so much time thinking about them?

I wish I knew why people sucked sometimes. Maybe some of you reading this are even thinking, Kim Bumsted sucks sometimes too. LOL, I do make my kids and husband read this. So that makes at least 5 people on the planet that have thought I sucked at least once or twice before. Not more than that of course. 😜 I've spent a decent amount of time thinking about sucky people over the past two weeks and ironically the more I thought about sucky people, the more sucky people I encountered. I am pretty sure I am not the only one out there that this has happen to.

We all have those encounters with people where you walk away feeling like you just got off the spinny thing at the park. What were they called anyways...merry-go-round? Remember those things and how dangerous they were? They were like metal frames of an alien spaceship, ready for blast off. One or two kids would race around and around the worn out sand track, running as fast as they possibly could, trying to eject it's riders into the dirt! That was the goal right!? (Shoot, I suck. I can't have been the only person on this planet with that intent.) As a passenger I would hang on for dear life and when it was over, I was either lying on the  ground in a crumpled heap or still hanging on to the merry-go-round. The inside of my knuckles raging with burning pain from grasping the metal so tightly. When it was through, I always had the same feelings of nausea and confusion. Not very different from an encounter with a really sucky person.

I can't help but wonder why these people cross my path or won't get off my path. I also ponder why I don't have the ability to face these energy vampires with even the fraction of the patience of Mother Theresa. I haven't found the answer yet, maybe I will some day. In the interim I'll continue to take each moment as they come.

This blog was especially difficult for me to write. Usually the topics and the writing flows pretty easily. I kept wanting to ditch the topic and move on to something else and then I would encounter someone or hear something on the radio or TV that would push me forward to continue to write, erase, write again on the topic of sucky people. They are out there no doubt about it.

I encountered a mom at my daughter's device pick up the other day. We arrived at about 2:10pm to her high school. Pick up started at 2:00. We had just left Costco with the hatch loaded with perishable items. We had to restock items that were spoiled in the fridge/freezer, after the electricity was out for 5 days, due to being hit by the derecho the week before. The line was already long, after waiting in the wrong line for approximately 5 minutes we drove to the correct side of the building to enter the 9th grade line. This line was already wrapped like a snake out onto the street outside of the schools parking lot. We had to wait in our cars to pick up our child's laptop for remote learning. Yes, our high school is full remote learning. That would be another topic for another day and dealing with a different sort of topic, that also involves suckiness. Anyways, after waiting in line for AN HOUR, And my Costco perishables melting minute by minute.  A mom who was probably 10-12 cars behind us decides she doesn't want to wait in line anymore. She decides to just pull forward in the line IN HER CAR. Forcing other cars to pull to the side. I'm sure many of the cars were thinking she had another obligation or got tired of waiting and was going to come back at another time. One of the deans halted her and asked what she needed. Assuming the same thing and was going to assist her in making a more direct safe exit. NOPE!! When he asked how he could help her, she replied she was picking up her student's device. He explained that's what everyone was waiting in line for and directed her to pull in front of us. WTH!!! He was very apologetic to us. I did understand there wasn't a lot he could do. Creating a conflict with this woman was not necessary. However, sheesh, WHO DOES THAT and what was she teaching the three other kids she had in the car with her!? It was super sucky. Boy if I could have put her on the merry-go-round, she would have blasted off to at least Mars. Does that make me sucky too?

Maybe that's it. If we each individually didn't suck other people wouldn't suck.

Note to self...be good.

P.S. I always like to end with a little quote, and after having the battle with the quarantined covid-19 (POUNDS, not the actual virus) I found this quote very fitting...

---When people suck the life out of you,

wouldn't it be nice if they took some fat too?
