kbFAWN has more exciting news...
Connections, stories, and friends are great ways to work together towards a common goal. If someone would have told me back in January that I would learn to crochet, start an Etsy Shop, and a foundation. I would have said no way in hell any of that was going to happen. kbFAWN continues to evolve and grow. At each new turn, I am excited and sometimes a little scared to see what is around the corner. I am currently putting together the board of directors for the foundation and looking for people who would like to be a part of the organization. kbFAWN's Etsy storefront is just a small part of what's to come.
Before sharing kbFAWN's next adventure, I wanted you all to pause and think about those connections you have with the friends or family you may have not seen in a while. Those people who when your paths cross, you pick up just where you left off. Often trying to catch up and share as much as you can in the short time you may have together.
Social media is another great way to keep in contact with people we don't see often, and even those we do see often, but might not see pictures of their kids or some of the fun adventures they may have taken. Facebook has been a great way for me to share my blog, as well as promote kbFAWN.
Not long after I announced the grand opening of kbFAWN, my high school friend Jenny reached out to me about teaching a crochet class to her teen group of kiddos with special needs! Wowza! I was so honored when she messaged me. However, I was scared! I had only just learned to crochet in March. I am not great. Truth be told I really only know a couple of stitches. Crochet is like this crazy art form that takes years and years to perfect. I was so hesitant to say yes to Jenny. The bottom line is I was scared, actually, let's go with, I was terrified! However, Jenny is one of those people I have run into throughout our years after high school and we always connect and pick up as if we were still the youngins we once were! This helped me overcome my fear.
Ultimately I decided I was being ridiculous. Anyone who has worked with kids who have special needs knows one of the many debilitating things to them are their fears. Things that may seem ordinary to the average person, such as flushing toilets, the weather, fabrics, and random noises can put a child with special needs into a spiral of anxiety, rage, or complete shutdown. I knew I needed to figure out a way to make a successful crochet topic for Jenny's teen group.
That being said I am honored and yes, a little terrified, to teach a group of teens at Mainsail Therapeutics some basics of crochet! I am grateful to my friend Jenny Sagrati for giving me the opportunity to be a part of her teen group! Stay tuned to find out how it all went!
"Don't be afraid of fear.
Because it sharpens you,
it challenges you,
it makes you stronger;
and when you run away from fear,
you also run away from the opportunity to be your best possible self."
